Graduation Requirements PDF Print E-mail

Applicants are selected to participate in the ASSETS+ Program because we believe that you:

  1. have the ability to complete the course requirements
  2. have a passion for your particular business idea
  3. want to see your dream of owning or expanding your business fulfilled

This course is not easy.  In order to graduate the following criteria must be met:

(1) ATTEND ALL 10 BUSINESS TRAINING SESSIONS

You will be required to attend all 10 business training sessions or if you are absent, you must contact the course instructor to see what topics were discussed and what homework assignments need to be completed.
The course material is presented using a participatory model rather than a lecture style.  People learn and function in different ways.  Everyone is encouraged to participate in small group discussions on various topics using case studies provided in the course material.  The concepts you find easy, may be difficult for others and vice versa.  We believe the diverse experience and background of each individual in the classroom can be used to help support each other as you work together to complete the assignments.
You will be required to do the research and homework assignments based on your own individual business idea and put this information into your business plan on a weekly basis.
At the end of the 10 week session, provided that you have done all your research and homework, and entered it into your business plan, you will have a comprehensive business plan in your hand.
This course will help you transfer the information that you have been mulling around in your head, perhaps for many years, onto paper in a step-by-step manner.
This course will help you to realize whether your business idea is feasible or whether you will need to make modifications to your plan in order to succeed.

(2) PAY YOUR COURSE FEE IN FULL

Course fees are based on family income using the LICO (Low Income Cutoff) schedule.  This will be discussed further during the information session.

(3) SUBMIT A SUITABLE BUINSESS PLAN

Copies of a blank business plan will be available in both paper and electronic versions.  You must submit a suitable business plan with all sections completed.  Although the document will be continually modified and updated, we want to ensure that as a graduate, you understand all the components that go into compiling the business plan.

(4) GRADUATION

At the end of the course, we will hold a graduation ceremony and provided you have met all the requirements you will graduate and join the many individuals who anticipate opening and operating their own business.
