Individuals interested in the ASSETS+ program are required to take the following steps in order to apply to the course:
(1) ATTEND AN INFORMATION SESSION
The information session discusses the course content and answers any questions you may have. It will help you to determine whether you and your business will benefit from taking the course. Anyone who is receiving any type of government assistance such as Employment Insurance or Ontario Works, should check with those organizations to see what they have to offer for self-employment training and whether their assistance prohibits you from participating in our training course. More information will be provided at the information session.
(2) COME WITH ONE SOLID BUSINESS IDEA
You are required to come to the course with one solid business idea. Throughout the course, we will discuss common business concepts. The research that you do on a weekly basis will be completed based on your individual business idea. You will not be able to benefit by taking the course if you do not have an idea for a business or conversely if you have ideas for a number of businesses. The skills that you will learn are transferrable so you can use this information in the future should you decide to open a different business than the one you research during the course.
(3) FILL OUT THE APPLICATION FORMS
You must fill out and submit; - the application form
- the survey “Self employment . . . Is it for Me”
- a copy of your current resume
The information provided will be used to determine if your business idea is acceptable for admission into our program. Businesses that have large capital requirements, with no personal resources to invest in the business or businesses of a questionable nature will not be acceptable.
(4) ATTEND AN INTERVIEW TO FURTHER DISCUSS YOUR BUSINESS IDEA
The interview will be used to assess whether you are at the stage where the information we provide in the course will be beneficial to you and your business at this time or whether you need to do additional work prior to applying to the course. Ie If you plan to open a counselling business, do you have all the licenses and qualifications required, or do you need to work toward getting these designations?
